It’s been rumoured for a month, and now Microsoft has officially announced an extended partnership with OpenAI, the company behind groundbreaking AI tools like ChatGPT and the image generation tool Dall-E 2.
Microsoft already invested in OpenAI in the year 2019 and 2021 and now they have announced one more multi-billion dollar investment (the amount has not been disclosed yet) which will probably increase the stake in OpenAI to the highest.
How will Microsoft Use OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Dall-E 2, and GPT-3?
- Microsoft is going to put a lot of money into making supercomputers that can help OpenAl do more advanced research on AI.
- They will also use OpenAI’s technology to make new types of digital experiences for people to use and build super-advanced AI-based applications.
- Microsoft’s Azure will remain the only place where OpenAl can use cloud technology for its research, products, and services.
What does it mean for OpenAI’s future?
As per OpenAI, this investment will be used to keep doing their own research and make AI that is very “safe, helpful, and strong”.
OpenAl is a company that is trying to make sure that the benefits of advanced artificial intelligence technology are available to everyone. To do this, OpenAl is set up as a non-profit organization, which means that it is not focused on making a lot of money. Instead, OpenAl is able to raise the money it needs to achieve its goals without having to compromise on its values of making sure that everyone benefits from AI and that safety is a top priority.
What CEO Of Microsoft & OpenAI are saying?
“We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform,” said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, of Microsoft.
“The past three years of our partnership have been great,” said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. “Microsoft shares our values and we are excited to continue our independent research and work toward creating advanced AI that benefits everyone.”
After this official statement was made, it seems likely that Microsoft’s search engine, Bing, will soon work with ChatGPT, which may be more powerful than Google.
